Cooper Smith

Boulevardier

A whiskey-forward riff on the Negroni — equal parts whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Campari.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir until chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe or rocks glass with one large cube.
  4. Garnish with an orange peel.

Notes

  • Toby Cecchini’s original variant (2013, Long Island Bar) splits the whiskey across two ryes and uses a house vermouth blend:
    • 1 oz Old Overholt Straight Rye whiskey
    • 1 oz Rittenhouse Rye 100-Proof
    • 1 oz Campari
    • 1 oz Long Island Bar house vermouth blend (1 part Carpano Antica Formula : 2 parts Cinzano Rosso — combine and refrigerate)

  • Toby Cecchini’s Other Boulevardier (2024) is a leaner update: single rye (Jaywalk Bonded), Mulassano Bitter in place of Campari, and a Spanish sherry-based vermouth (Barbadillo Atamán) in place of the Italian house blend.
